Georgia Tech will start the 2023 season by taking on Louisville in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic.

It was announced on Wednessy afternoon that the Yellow Jackets will begin their 2023 season by playing in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game. The Jackets will take on ACC opponent Louisville in the matchup.

The game currently set for September 2, 2023 is part of the program’s six-year partnership with Mercedes Benz Stadium. Over the course of the partnership, the state of the art stadium, just minutes from Tech’ campus will host one Georgia Tech game per season until 2026.

The Jackets have appeared once in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic, coming back in 2017, a 42-41 loss to Tennessee in double-overtime. The Jackets will also play in the game in 2022 as they open the season up against the Clemson Tigers.

Until then, Georgia Tech will have plenty of work to do. The Jackets are coming off a 3-7 season under second-year head coach Geoff Collins and will be in need of a big 2021 season. The Jackets are currently set to kickoff next season on September 4 against the Northern Illinois Huskies.

The Yellow Jackets are currently scheduled to play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2021 but an opponent has yet to be announced. Based off the Jackets 2021 home games, matchups against North Carolina and Virginia Tech make sense. All of this of course is assuming that stadiums will be allowed host bigger crowds this upcoming fall. It’s likely that MBS and Tech will do everything they can go get a game in this season after this past season’s game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium between the Yellow Jackets and Fighting Irish was moved to Bobby Dodd.
