Georgia Tech’s 2022 recruiting class is officially off the ground (again) as on Monday night four-star running back Antonio Martin out of Langston Hughes in Fairburn, Georgia committed to the Yellow Jackets. Martin is officially the second player to commit to the Jackets in 2022 but previous commitment, Florida wide receiver Julian Lewis decommitted late last month after originally committing to Geoff Collins and the Jackets back in September.

Martin is ranked by 247Sports composite rankings as a top-270 player in the country, the nation’s no.26 running back and Georgia’s 26th best player regardless of position. The Langston Hughes prospect stands at 5-foot-10 and 195-pounds.

His offer list is impressive thus far, collecting 13 reported offers including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, and Michigan thus far. Martin received his initial offer from the Yellow Jackets way back in October 2019, it’s safe to say the Yellow Jackets have been in on Martin perhaps longer than anyone else in the country.

Landing Martin is a huge boost to the Yellow Jackets’ depth going forward as well. With five scholarship backs currently set to be on the roster for the 2022 season and assuming no one leaves the program, Martin would be one of three four-star running backs in the Jackets running back room. He would be joining Jamious Griffin and Jahmyr Gibbs as former four-stars.

The Jackets in the 2021 recruiting class ended up not taking any running backs. Understandable, however, due to having right now seven scholarship running backs heading into next season. The 2021 recruiting class featured 16 high school players and seven transfers. In 247Sports’s composite rankings, the Jackets have the 46th ranked class in the country and 11th in the ACC. However, by average rating, the Jackets class ranks sixth in the ACC at 86.42, a better estimate of where the Jackets recruiting class truly ranks.

That being said, the Jackets 2022 recruiting class with Martin is off to a fantastic start and is one that should help build momentum in the class going forward.
