Georgia Tech baseball is continuing to climb up multiple college baseball rankings after taking two of three from the Duke Blue Devils this weekend.
Before diving into the individual rankings, the Jackets sit at No.46 in the RPI rankings with their 13-7 record. The Jackets have been hurt this season by their non-conference RPI and strength of schedule that sits at 215 and 232 respectively. They’re receiving a bit of a boost however from their overall RPI that sits at 55 as six of their seven opponents this season have had RPIs of 101 or better.
Notably, against quadrant one teams this season (Pittsburgh, Louisville, Wake Forest, and Duke the Jackets are 7-5 overall while their 4-0 against quadrant two teams (North Carolina State and Mercer). They’ll have a great opportunity over the next few weeks to continue to increase their RPI ranking with five of their next eight opponents currently being either quadrant one or quadrant two teams.
Without further adieu, here’s where various outlets have Danny Hall’s program ranked entering this week.
D1 Baseball: No.6 – LINK
The Jackets climbed up five spots in this week’s newest ranking on D1 Baseball, jumping into the top 10 going from No.11 to No.6. They’re the highest-ranked ACC program, just beating out Louisville who sits at No.7. The Jackets took two of three from the Cardinals earlier this season in Atlanta.
Baseball America: No.9 – LINK
The Yellow Jackets are also viewed quite highly by Baseball America who moved the Jackets up one spot in this week’s poll. They note the Jackets still have quite a bit of question to answer in the upcoming weeks but that they should have plenty of firepower to figure things out while maintaining their winning ways.
NCBWA: No.12 – LINK
The National College Baseball Writers Association didn’t move the Jackets up or down this week, as they stayed put at No.12 in th rankings.
College Baseball Newspaper: No.18 – LINK
The College Baseball Newspaper is the lowest on the Yellow Jackets of any outlet ranking them outside the top-15 all the way down at No.18. They did move the Jackets up one spot, however from last week’s No.19 ranking.
USA Today Coaches Poll: No.10 – LINK
If you would rather the opinion of coaches rather than writers, the USA Today’s coaches poll is very high on the Jackets, slotting them in at No.10 in the country, the second-highest ACC ranked team behind Louisville at No. 5. The Jacketsseries win over Duke was strong enough to bump them up three spots from last week’s No.13 ranking.
The Yellow Jackets will get back on the field this Thursday as they return home and start a three-game series against the Virginia Cavaliers.
