Well, I’m about to be real foolish or real smart, because I’m all over the Demon Deacons at -2.5 tonight.
The Demon Deacons have advantages in seemingly every category, with a better offense and defense, better rebounding percentages, better turnover ratios, and finally better free-throw numbers.
The only area that Georgia Tech has an advantage is in 3-point shooting, where Georgia Tech ranks 83rd nationally and Wake Forest is a lowly 219th per Bart Torvik. Even then, Wake Forest’s 5th ranked 2-point percentage leads them to a top 60 offense in the country while Georgia Tech is way down at 220th.
Wake Forest has better wins and Georgia Tech has worse losses. Wake Forest is 7-3 in their last 10 games while Georgia Tech has limped to a 2-8 record in that same span. Perhaps the oddsmakers know something that I don’t, and they usually do, but sometimes they just like to play games. That’s what I believe is happening here.
A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while, and maybe Georgia Tech is feeling squirrely. But in a game I make closer to a 6-point spread, I love the value I’m getting with Wake Forest -2.5 and am locking the Demon Deacons in as my best bet for this matchup.
