On Thursday, February 24th, Georgia Tech football kicked off their spring practices and start their preparation for the 2022 season.

Georgia Tech football did not end their 2021 season on a high note. Ending the year with only three wins total and only two total conference wins and losing six straight to end their 2021 campaign. Along with this being the third year in a row Coach Geoff Collins has only won three games.

Furthermore, they are losing 15 players to the transfer portal this offseason. With names like,

  • Jamious Griffin RB
  • Wesley Walker S
  • Michael Lockhart DL
  • Jordan Domineck EDGE
  • Jared Ivey EDGE
  • Adonicas Sanders WR
  • Jahmyr Gibbs RB
  • Chayden Peery QB
  • Jaquon Griffin DL
  • Tony Amerson RB
  • Jamal Camp IOL
  • Jordan Yates QB
  • Khaya Wright LB
  • Marquez Ezzard
  • Jordan Huff CB

Among these names, the most notable that will affect the team going into next season is running-back Jahmyr Gibbs who is now committed at Alabama the other notable loss is EDGE Jared Ivey who is heading to Ole Miss to play his 2022 season.

Now enough with all the bad. Here are some of the early enrollees and incoming transfers you will see this upcoming spring and fall.

Transfers:

  • Paul Tchio OL
  • Pierce Quick OL
  • Luke Benson TE
  • Khari Gee DB
  • Zach Gibson QB
  • Ahmari Harvey DB
  • Hassasn Hall RB

Commits:

  • Zach Pyron QB
  • Kyle Efford TE
  • Jaylin Marshall DB
  • Antonio Martin RB
  • DJ Moore WR

So though Georgia Tech is losing a lot of players to the portal they also utilized the portal very well to help fill some of the holes left by all their players in the portal.

Lastly, with all this excitement of the spring practice beginning a lot of fans are just hoping to finally see some improvement heading into next season. Coach Geoff Collins is now heading into his fourth year of coaching at Georgia Tech and has yet to have an above 3-win season.

Collins and the team are excited to already be back on the field. When asked about whether there is any added excitement around the team this year Collins replied saying, “We don’t have to gas anything up or make anything more exciting than it is. We need to go out every day and play clean football. We have to come out with that focus,”.

Now I know it is still way too early to be looking into the regular season. But now with spring practice arriving it means we are about to start seeing a little bit of what the transfers and commits will do for this Yellow Jackets team and we will see a little glimpse of it through the practices and on March 17th they will hold their annual spring game where we will get a chance to see how the new faces play in a real game environment.
