On Monday, April 11th coach Geoff Collins announced that Georgia Tech has hired Del Alexander as the new wide receivers coach.

Coach Geoff Collins was on the hot seat last year for the 2021-22 college football season. Many think it should have been his last year at Georgia tech. But now with him having one more year, it is a make-or-break year for Georgia Tech.

It will be a rough and bumpy road for Collins this year to bring success to the team. But his newest addition to the coaching staff shows that he wants to bring success back to the school and stick around. He announced that Del Alexander would be joining Georgia Tech’s coaching staff.

Del Alexanders background

Before being hired by Georgia Tech, Del Alexander was spending his last five seasons being the wide receiver coach at Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame Alexander has been to five bowl games, along with two College Football Playoff appearances. Alexander was also a big part in coaching and developing some current NFL talent such as; wideout Chase Claypool and Miles Boykin.

But his last five years at Notre Dame are just a small snippet of what he has done in his coaching career. Del has been coaching for the last 23-years. He has spent time coaching at Arizona State, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of San Diego, Oregon State University, UNLV, and even had a short stint coaching in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers.

What does this mean for Georgia Tech?

As you read, Del Alexander has been around for a long time and has a ton of experience being a coach in college. This is exactly what the Yellow Jackets need if they want to be successful in the 2022-23 season.

Alexander said during a press conference, “I look forward to joining a great staff and working tirelessly day in and day out. The wide receiver group is extremely talented and I can’t wait to help them develop even more.” Then going on to say that he is excited to work with Coach Chip Long who is currently Georgia Techs’ offensive coordinator/tight ends coach, because; “Long and I have had a lot of success together and I can’t wait to share the sideline with him again”

I think that Georgia Tech got a good hire here with Alexander. With the familiarity with the OC in Coach Long and his track record of coaching for over 23-years and having success everywhere he has gone, I think he will take this wide receiver room to the next step and we will see more production from the wideouts.
