Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key continues to hear his name connected to several high-profile coaching openings across the South. After being linked to the Penn State job earlier in the season. Key’s name has now surfaced in conversations surrounding vacancies at Florida, and possibly Florida State.
Florida fired Billy Napier over the weekend. While rumors have started, of Florida State firing Mike Norvell after the season.
In his most recent press conference, Key addressed those rumors. He compared the outside noise around coaching speculation to the attention and praise his players receive. His message was clear — the focus should stay on Georgia Tech’s process, not on distractions outside the program.

Key stressed that past success or future possibilities matter less than the present. His priority remains preparing for the next opponent, fixing mistakes, and continuing to build on the team’s core values of toughness and discipline.
Rumors Are Noise
He explained that, just like his players, he blocks out the noise and focuses on the work in front of him. Key also reminded everyone of his strong commitment to Georgia Tech. A program he has helped rebuild from the ground up. For him, these rumors are more “fun talk” than anything serious.
As a Georgia Tech alum, Key feels a deep loyalty to the school and believes he can lead the Jackets to a championship. Many insiders have said the Penn State rumors never made much sense anyway, as the fit wasn’t right in style or region.
If any job seems logical, it might be Florida or Florida State, but Key appears determined to keep building a contender at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 7 after a 7-0 start this season.
