Just four weeks into the 2025 NFL season, one of the biggest surprises among rookies is coming from Buffalo. And from an unexpected place. Former Georgia Tech tight end Jackson Hawes has quickly earned national attention after being ranked the No. 1 rookie in the NFL by Pro Football Focus (PFF) through Week 4. One month into the season, Jackson Hawes looks like a steal from the 2025 NFL draft.

Hawes’ journey to this point is anything but ordinary. He began his college career at Yale, where he played from 2019 to 2023, before transferring to Georgia Tech for the 2024 season. In just one year with the Yellow Jackets, he made a strong impression. Hawes led the ACC in both run-blocking and pass-blocking grades, according to PFF, showcasing the same discipline and toughness that have now made him a valuable asset in Buffalo.

Despite being a fifth-round pick and starting the year as the No. 3 tight end behind Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, Hawes has carved out an important role for the Bills. His playing time has seen 39 percent of offensive snaps.

Impressive for a rookie in such a deep position group. While his stats in the passing game are modest. Four catches on four targets for one touchdown. He has made each opportunity count.

What stands out is his impact in the trenches. His blocking ability has given Buffalo more flexibility in its offensive schemes, reducing the need for jumbo formations. His consistency and football IQ. have Jackson Hawes on the radar as a promising rookie talent. The Buffalo Bills have built themselves a solid stable of high caliber Tight Ends

For a player who was considered a developmental project, Jackson Hawes is quickly proving that he belongs. Not  only in the league, but among the young talents. Georgia Tech fans have plenty to be proud of watching one of their own thrive on Sundays.
