Last week, the CFP rankings gave Virginia the top spot among ACC teams, but this week Georgia Tech found itself overlooked in favor of Miami.

Despite the Yellow Jackets holding some of the strongest odds to win the conference, the ACC continues to be viewed as a second-tier league by the selection committee.

College Football Playoff Selection Committee Chairman Mack Rhoades commented that the ACC lacks major victories this season.

“We evaluate every team individually, not by conference. When we look at the ACC’s nonconference results, there just aren’t many standout wins besides Miami’s victory over Notre Dame,” Rhoades explained.

Georgia Tech, however, has proven to be one of the most complete teams in the nation. Led by Heisman hopeful Haynes King, who tops several statistical categories, the Jackets boast a balanced offense and one of the most potent rushing attacks in college football.

Fortunately, all of this debate will mean little if Georgia Tech wins out. Coming off a bye week, King and company are expected to come out strong against a struggling Boston College squad. The defense, in particular, must set the tone early and reestablish its dominant edge heading into the final stretch.

Fan Reactions

Georgia Tech fans are understandably frustrated about Miami jumping ahead in the latest rankings.

One fan vented on X, writing: “Miami isn’t even projected to reach the ACC Championship. So why are they the ACC team listed for the Playoff? Should the rest of the conference expect refs to make sure that happens?”

Another fan pointed out that an 8–1 Georgia Tech team was passed over for a two-loss Miami squad. A decision that defies logic in the eyes of many supporters.

With only three regular-season games left, Georgia Tech’s road to the ACC Championship, and possibly the College Football Playoff, begins this Saturday at Boston College. Followed by Pittsburgh, and in stat rival from the SEC No. 5 ranked Georgia.
