Georgia Tech continued its magical run on Hall of Fame Weekend, defeating Virginia Tech 35–20 to move to 6–0 for the first time since the 1950s. The 13th-ranked Yellow Jackets entered the game with their highest national ranking in more than a decade ,and looked every bit the part of a ACC contender on Saturday night in Atlanta.
Quarterback Haynes King delivered another efficient and electric performance, completing 20 of 24 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. He also added 60 yards on the ground and two rushing scores, leading an offense that piled up 481 total yards. King’s poise and dual-threat ability kept the Hokies off balance all night as the Jackets struck early and never looked back.
Head coach Brent Key, who continues to elevate the program in his second full season, picked up a nice bonus as well. Per his contract, Key earns $50,000 for reaching six wins and securing bowl eligibility. But the focus in the locker room is much bigger than bonuses this team is chasing something special.
The Yellow Jackets now sit firmly in the ACC title race, eyeing a possible trip to the conference championship and even a shot at the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff if they continue their winning ways.
Next weekend, Georgia Tech is on the road to face Duke, looking to extend the best start in over half a century and keep Atlanta buzzing with championship dreams. The remaining schedule is winnable. As long as they focus week by week.
