As Georgia Tech prepares for its final ACC regular-season game, there’s a real possibility that it could also be the last one with offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner on the sideline. Even with Georgia Tech signing him to a two-year extension. One that made him the highest-paid assistant coach in program history, contracts rarely guarantee long-term stability in today’s fluid college football landscape.

Faulkner’s work in Atlanta hasn’t gone unnoticed. He’s taken Georgia Tech talent and engineered one of the most explosive, creative, and well-designed offenses in the ACC. That kind of production naturally attracts attention, and several programs may already be circling. While Faulkner is unlikely to land head-coaching roles at places like LSU, Auburn, or Florida, his name has surfaced as a realistic offensive coordinator candidate at multiple high-profile SEC programs, including Arkansas, and Auburn.

External reports and conversations, such as those from national outlets and fan forums. Have linked him to openings across the league.

There is also a strategic gamble in staying at Georgia Tech. Some athletic directors may want to see how Faulkner performs without Haynes King, the quarterback who helped elevate his system and boost his national reputation. If he returns and the offense regresses, his stock could cool. If he leaves now, he may be selling high. Filling King’s shoes next season will be no easy task, and Faulkner knows how quickly momentum can shift in this profession.

Faulkner’s résumé also includes three seasons on Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia, a coaching tree that has already produced proven winners such as Dan Lanning (Oregon)Shane Beamer (South Carolina), and Fran Brown (Syracuse). That pedigree alone makes him attractive to programs seeking a fresh, modern offensive direction.

Whether or not this is his final ACC game with the Yellow Jackets, one thing is clear: Buster Faulkner’s name will be in the mix for major offensive coordinator jobs this offseason. And with his creative play-calling paired with top-tier SEC-level talent, it’s easy to see why.
