That will be the day that the two greatest wide receivers to ever leave The Flats will face each other on an NFL field.

The 2015 NFL Schedule has blessed fans with a matchup between the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos which will take place at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

In that game, Tech fans will be able to see Detroit’s Calvin Johnson go head-to-head against Denver’s Demaryius Thomas.

Johnson and Thomas are arguably the two best receivers in the NFL today and fans will get to see them on the field against each other for the first time since October 30, 2011.

In that game the Detroit Lions stomped the Broncos 45-10 in Denver.

Calvin Johnson won the receiver matchup that day over Demaryius Thomas with “Megatron” recording six catches for 125 yards and a touchdown compared to Thomas’ one catch for 10 yards.

Now in Thomas’ defense, he did have Tim Tebow throwing the ball to him in that game who was 18 of 39 for 179 yards and one TD in the contest.

Since then the Broncos have made a significant upgrade at quarterback with Peyton Manning being at the helm of the Broncos since 2012.

Since 2012, Thomas has been one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL. Thomas has caught at least 90 or more receptions, gained 1,400 yards or more and scored at least 10 touchdowns or more every year since Manning arrived.

In 2014, Demaryius Thomas finished with a career high 111 receptions for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Thomas is playing the 2015 season with a franchise tag contract that netted him approximately $12.8 million dollars.

Meanwhile, Calvin Johnson who is widely considered to be the best wide receiver in the NFL today has continued to be an unstoppable force since that meeting.

Last season Johnson reached the 10,000 yard receiving plateau reaching it in 115 career games which eclipsed the record of 116 games set by Torry Holt.

Johnson finished 2014 with 71 receptions for 1,077 yards and eight touchdowns in only 13 games.

“Megatron” for his career has 643 receptions for 10,405 yards and 74 touchdowns.

What makes this matchup so intriguing is that last season in an interview on NFL Total Access, host Dan Hellie asked Demaryius Thomas who was the best receiver out of himself and Calvin Johnson and Thomas said without hesitation himself.

Of course all of this is said in good fun, but since then Yellow Jackets’ fans and  NFL fans as a whole have wanted to see these two wide receivers oppose each other on the football field.

We thought there might be a chance in the Pro Bowl, but both players declined to play in the game so they could heal their wounds from the grueling 2014 season.

That is okay because we would rather see these two square off in a meaningful game during the regular season.

So mark it down football fans, September 27, 2015 which is Week 3 of the NFL season Denver Broncos at Detroit Lions.

Please lord let everyone come into this game healthy so we can be entertained!
