The newest Georgia Tech football recruiting news is that three-star dual threat quarterback John Holcombe will be taking an unofficial visit to The Flats on Friday.

Georgia Tech will be hosting three-star dual threat quarterback John Holcombe Jr. (Humble, TX – Summer Creek) on Friday according to the high school senior’s twitter profile.

Currently, the Humble, Texas native holds four scholarship offers according to his 247Sports page including offers from two FBS schools in Illinois and SMU.

While it’s still early in his recruitment, it wouldn’t be crazy to say that Illinois could be the favorite for Holcombe. Not only were the Illini the first FBS school to offer the Texas quarterback but he is the younger brother of Illinois tight end Zarrian Holcombe who is entering his redshirt freshman season at Illinois.

While the Yellow Jackets haven’t yet offered Holcombe, it wouldn’t be shocking if an offer is extended on Friday. With all that, a few other FBS programs have shown mutual interest with Holcombe in Florida, Duke, And Texas Tech.

Currently, the Yellow Jackets coaching staff  has two offers out to class of 2018 quarterbacks. One offer is to Justin Fields (Kennesaw, Georiga – Harrison) who is committed to Penn State. The other is to uncommitted Valdosta, Georgia native Michael Barrett.

At 6-foot-4, 227-pounds, Holcombe provides great size for a dual threat quarterback. Holcombe also has a strong arm, making many throws appear almost effortless. While he lacks “elite” speed, his size does allow him to use the speed he does possess to power through tackles and gain the extra yards. Holcombe could be a late riser in the 2017 class and could be a huge get for Paul Johnson and staff.
