The 2018 recruiting cycle is winding down which means that Georgia Tech football is trying to put the finishing touches on their top-50 recruiting class.

December Signing Period vs National Signing Day:

One of the more interesting debates that will be rekindled over the next few weeks is the idea of the early December signing period.

For those who don’t know, the 2018 recruiting cycle will be the first recruiting cycle to allow football players to allow players to sign prior to National Signing Day even if they don’t choose to enroll early at their respective schools.

One of the consensus feelings is that a lot of schools, especially powerhouse programs will begin to “force” players to sign during the early December signing period. If a player chooses not to sign during the early signing period, coaching staffs will act as though the scholarship that the player is currently committed to is once again up for grabs.

That being said, that doesn’t mean that the Yellow Jacket is necessarily going to use such measures next month but it will be interesting to see how the Jackets coaching staff treats the signing period going forward.

That being said, over the next few weeks, information should begin to become available regarding which Yellow Jacket commitments will be signing early. Two recruits that are confirmed to be early signing period signees are T.K Chimdeza and Justice Dingle.

Notable 2018 Recruits to watch:

More from Football Recruiting

  • QB Michael Barrett

According to Rod Mackenzie over at GoJackets ($), the Jackets still have extremely high interest in Barrett and the feeling is mutual. That mutual interest between the schools was evident with Barrett’s latest visit to The Flats on Saturday for the Jackets upset victory over Virginia Tech.

Barrett has been exploring his options throughout his recruitment, keeping an open mind about where programs want him to play at the next level. That being said, the Jackets are recruiting Barrett as a quarterback but a position move wouldn’t be out of the question.

  • WR Jalen Jordan

Depending who you ask, some will say that the Yellow Jackets are done with recruiting wide receivers in the 2018 class. However, 247Sports reported yesterday ($) that three-star Jalen Jordan will be visiting the Jackets next month along with Rutgers.

If Jordan were to commit to the Jackets, he would e their best wide receiver recruit in the class. The Jackets already hold commitments from Malachi Carter and Harrison Jump.

  • OT Troy Ingle

Not many may know about Ingle yet but it will be a name worth noting over the next several weeks. Ingle, a three-star offensive tackle from Florida has been a Western Kentucky commitment since July 2nd but has been recently pursued by the Jackets coaching staff.

Ingle plays at powerhouse American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale and was offered by the Jackets recruiting staff back at the start of August. Ingle so far has stayed true to his commitment to Western Kentucky but with an official visit set for December 15th of next month, his commitment will be worth watching. That mid-December OV will be the best shot the Jackets have of flipping the three-star away from the Hilltoppers.

  • ATH Alontae Taylor

A recent Tennessee decommit, Taylor named the Jackets in his new top five but the Jackets still have a ton of work to lad Taylor. If being honest, it appears Taylor is the Jackets back up plan if they fail to land Barrett as they are recruiting him to play quarterback.

That it for this week’s recruiting roundup, make sure to check back in next week to see what developments are going in when it comes to Georgia Tech football’s recruitment of the 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes.
