The Georgia Tech basketball team earned this second win of the season on Wednesday night against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The Jacket handed the Vaqueros their third loss of the season with a 78-68 victory.

The victory was easily the Jackets best game of the season from start to finish which included shooting over 50% from the floor and 41.7% from beyond the arch. The Jackets were led by grad transfer Brandon Alston, who had a 20-point effort shooting six-from-nine from the floor and six-of-eight from the charity stripe.

Ben Lammers had another strong performance, scoring 14 points while bringing down seven rebounds. Abdoulaye Gueye contributed a season-high 13 points. Freshman Corey Haywood and Jose Alvarado also had solid nights, Haywood finishing with 11 points and six assists while Alvarado had eight points and six assists himself.

While the Jackets shot well from three-point range on Wednesday, they struggled at the line. In total, the Jackets had 34 free throw attempts against UTGRV but only shot 61.8%. That number will have to come up drastically as the Jackets move towards their tougher games this season.

For the Vaqueros, senior guard Nick Dixon once again lead them in scoring, dropping 23 points in their losing effort. Dixon shot 6-for-12 from the floor and 2-4 from beyond the arch. The senior sharpshooter was the only Vaquero to hit from beyond the arch on Wednesday the rest of the UTRGV team was 0-for-16, shooting just 11.1% as a team.
