Georgia Tech Softball: Yellow Jackets welcomes Tar Heels to Atlanta
After defeating Presbyterian during the week, the Georgia Tech softball team welcome the North Carolina Tar Heels to Atlanta.
This past week, the Georgia Tech softball team finally returned home from a seven game road trip on Wednesday as they hosted Presbyterian. The Jackets came away with a 5-1 victory thanks to 3 RBI from freshman Lilly Hooper, a batter who Tech really needed to get back on track. Brooke Barfield was the winning pitcher.
Barfield pitched a complete game without giving up a walk, which is something the coaching staff has to be pleased to see. Now the Jackets look to take the momentum into their next ACC series as they host North Carolina.
North Carolina leads the coastal division with a 13-5 conference record. Brittany Pickett is the Tar Heels ace in the circle. She comes into this weekend with a 12-2 record and an ERA of 2.57. That may seem like a daunting task for the Yellow Jackets offense but in their series loss to Pitt they did prove they have the ability to hit a team’s best pitcher.
Against Pitt’s Harris who came in the weekend with only 1 loss the Jackets scored 7 of their 12 runs of the series off of her. The problem was staying focused and making adjustments against the secondary pitchers. No one else on the Tar Heel staff have more than 1 win. Tug the Jackets are able to put runs on the board against Pickett they have to capitalize against the rest of the Tar Heels staff as well.
Emily Anderson comes into the weekend with a 15-12 record and an ERA of 2.14. Brooke Barfield is also starting to make strides in the right direction as she showed on Wednesday night. Her ERA is 3.82. The Jackets will need a complete effort from the pitchers not named Anderson this weekend if they are going to take the series against a great Carolina team. That was the difference at Pitt, the Panthers staff had more depth on the weekend.
