The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets go on the road for the first time in the 2018 season as they travel down to Tampa Bay to take on the South Florida Bulls, the Jackets first real test of the 2018 season.

The Georgia Tech football program got their season started a week ago on the right foot with a 41-0 victory over the Alcorn State Braves. With that being said, the Yellow Jackets are going to face their first real test of the season at high noon. The South Florida Bulls are coming off back-to-back 10 win seasons and are looking for a third straight in 2018. The Yellow Jackets on the other hand have high aspirations for the season including an ACC Championship. Both teams will see on Saturday just how good they truly are as they both get tested for the first time in 2018.

What they did last week:

Georgia Tech: 41-0 win over Alcorn State

The Yellow Jackets started Paul Johnson’s 11th season on The Flats with a shutout victory over the Alcorn State Braves. The Yellow Jackets offense showed flashes but left a lot to be desired and Paul Johnson let it be known following the win. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets looked pretty darn good for their first game under defensive coordinator Nate Woody. The Yellow Jackets allowed under 150 total yards of offense with just 69-yards coming through the air.

USF Bulls: 34-14 win over Elon

The Bulls didn’t have as of an impressive victory as the Yellow Jackets but they still got the job done. The Bulls saw starting quarterback Blake Barnett have a strong first game with the program completing over 70% of his passes for over 300-yards and three touchdowns. The game also served as a coming out party for Randell St.Felix, a freshman wide out for the Bulls who had over 170-yards receiving against the Phoenix.

Key Facts:

  • This will be the first meeting ever between the two programs
  • The matchup is the only one scheduled between the two programs over the next 10-years.
  • Raymond James Stadium also served as the stadium for the 2009 ACC Championship Game in which the Yellow Jackets won 39-34 over Clemson

Odds: Georgia Tech (-2.5)

The Jackets are a -2.5 point favorite over the Bulls, the same line that the game opened as last Sunday. If considering the belief that home field advantage is worth 3-points, than that would truly make the Yellow Jackets about a 5.5 point favorite in all reality. Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets were a 42-point favorite over Alcorn State and barely missed covering the spread.
