Georgia Tech Football: Wesley Wells named ACC Specialist of the week
Georgia Tech freshman kicker Wesley Wells earned a weekly ACC honor for his performance against Virginia.
Georgia Tech freshman placekicker Wesley Wells received a much-deserved honor on Monday afternoon when he was named the ACC’s Specialist of the week. The freshman who replaced sophomore Brenton King during the season has been nothing short of consistent for the Yellow Jackets in 2018 and his performance on Saturday was his best yet.
Against the Cavaliers, Wells was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts including making two 40+ yard field goals including the game winner in overtime of 40-yards.
On the season, the Dahlonega (GA) native is 8-for-8 on field goal attempts and a perfect 35-for-35 on extra point attempts. For Wells, the two 40+ yard field goals that he hit on Saturday should only have the coaching staff’s confidence in him grow going forward. Prior to Saturday, Wells had attempted just one 40+ yard field goal on the season.
The four field goal game for Wells was the first for the Yellow Jackets since Harrison Butker accomplished the feat against the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl.
For the Yellow Jackets and Wales, it’s time to get ready for Georgia. The Yellow Jackets will look to accomplish the feat of defeating the Bulldogs three straight times at Sanford Stadium. The Yellow Jackets have needed big special team performances each of the last two times at UGA and perhaps the Jackets will this time to turn to Wells for such an effort.
Wells was also named one of our players of the game for his effort against Virginia.
