Georgia Tech Football Recruiting: Jackets land commtiment from TE Dylan Deveney
New Jersey TE Dylan Deveney committed to the Georgia Tech football program on Monday night.
Georgia Tech has landed their 18th commitment in the 2019 recruiting class in three-star New Jersey tight end Dylan Deveney. The former Rutgers commitment decommited from the Scarlet Knights on Sunday night and now has announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets.
Deveney becomes Georgia Tech’s first tight end commitment since Austin Barrick in the 2006 recruiting class. The commitment for the Yellow Jackets comes just two days before early national signing day when most committed recruits are expected to put pen to paper and ink their letters of intent.
At 6-foot-6 and 245-pounds, Deveney is physically mature enough that he could make an impact as early as next year for the Yellow Jackets. The coachings staff may not have much of a choice in the matter either as Deveney could enter the spring and fall as the only natural tight end on the roster. That being said, don’t be surprised if the Jackets look to add a second tight end for February’s National Signing Day or look to add a transfer at the position.
Deveney’s commitment for the Yellow Jackets pushes them up to 47th nationally and 10th in the ACC. They have an average star rating of .8521.
Deveney is the second prospect to commit under head coach Geoff Collins, joining cornerback Kenan Johnson. Collins was also able to land Vanderbilt graduate transfer Jared Southers this past weekend. Southers is also a New Jersey native like Deveney.
