Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key has been dipping into the Spring transfer portal, as he has already brought in cornerback Jon Mitchell and safety Savion Riley, but the newest player to the Yellow Jackets by way of transfer portal is someone that Yellow Jackets fans may have see before: defensive lineman Akelo Stone.
If the name does sound familiar, it is because Stone originally signed with the Yellow Jackets in the 2020 recruiting cycle, and even played in a total of 21 games for the Yellow Jackets, even playing in all 12 games of the 2022 season. However, Stone would go to where he thought the grass was greener, as he committed to the Ole Miss Rebels in the transfer portal that next season.
In his two seasons with the Rebels, Stone played in 23 games, and became one of the better defensive players for the Rebels during his time there, with him being the third highest rated defender on the team in PFF in his first season with the Rebels.
Over the past two seasons with the Rebels, Stone would account for 41 total tackles and make a name for himself around the SEC. However, Stone would enter back into the transfer portal again after spring drills, choosing to go back to the team where it all started: the Yellow Jackets.
Stone could make an immediate impact on the defensive line coming into the season, pairing him up with Jordan van den Berg to create a great interior defensive line.
