When former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci decided to take the job as a linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens, Yellow Jackets fans were left stunned and wondering how they would be able to fill the position fast, and they got their answer quick, as head coach Brent Key would hire Josh Gideon, who at the time was the safeties coach for the Texas Longhorns. Now, this looks like it could be a match made in heaven for Key, Gideon, and Yellow Jackets fans alike.

Gideon comes to the Yellow Jackets after being with the Longhorns staff for four seasons, where he built the Longhorns around their defense, creating one of the best defenses in the country since his hire. Last season, Gideon was named the 2024 National Defensive Backs Coach of the Year by Football Scoop, and rightfully so, as his Longhorns secondary was among the best, if not the best in all of college football last season.

However, I think that the transfers that the Yellow Jackets have coming in like Kelvin Hill, Jyron Gilmore, and Daiquon White makes the secondary look even more dangerous, so not only do the Yellow Jackets have one of the top secondary coaches in the entire country, they have a strong position group to match that.

Gideon and the Yellow Jackets defense will be one of the better ones that we will see in a long time for the Yellow Jackets, and it seems that this could be the first time in years that the team has a very productive season on the defensive side of the ball.
