The last time that Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fans seen Brady Jones, he was starting a postseason game against the Murray State Racers and he only recorded two outs, while allowing four hits and five runs in one of the most important games of the season for the Yellow Jackets. However, I think that Jones can turn that around next season.
Jones will undoubtedly be the starting pitcher for the Yellow Jackets in day one, and their Friday starter, as that was his spot in the rotation for most of the season last year, starting 16 games for the Yellow Jackets.
Jones had a rough start to the season against the Old Dominion Monarchs, allowing three runs and not recording a single out, but what Jones did in between his first and last start was magical. There was a stretch in the season where Jones pitched at least five innings in eight consecutive games, including a seven inning one-hitter against the Louisville Cardinals on May 11.
There will be a trio returning to the Yellow Jackets from last year’s rotation: Jones, Tate McKee, and Riley Stanford. Of the three, Jones would be the one that I trust the most in a pivotal game that would need a great outing from a pitcher, and the second half of the season, I feel, proved that Jones was a solidified starter and a pitcher that you could rely on.
Jones will enter his sophomore season in 2026, so the Yellow Jackets could still see Jones as the ace heading into the 2027 season as well if he decides to stay with the team after next season.
