With the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets needing a big win in their series against the then-No.20 ranked Louisville Cardinals this past weekend, head coach Danny Hall tried to put his best on the mound for the team.

While that did not go exactly according to plan in game one, as the pitching staff gave up 16 runs, Brady Jones started game two of the series, and more than made up for the pitching woes in the second game of the series.

Jones would start the game shaky, walking two batters in the first inning, but would get out of the inning without allowing a run. That would be the closest that the Cardinals would get to scoring a run in the contest, as Jones would enter the seventh inning of the first game of the doubleheader without allowing a hit, as he retired 14 straight batters.

In the seventh inning, with the realization that he only needed three outs to complete a no-hitter, Jones came to the mound with all the confidence in the world. He would get two straight grounds to retire his 14th and 15th straight batters, just one out away from a no-hitter, but designated hitter Garrett Pike would hit a single to break up the no-hitter for Jones. Jones would get a groundout for the last out of the game, getting credit for a complete game, the first Yellow Jackets pitcher to hit the mark this season.

Jones’ one-hit shutout is the first one for the Yellow Jackets since April 15, 2011, when Mark Pope completed the feat.
