There have been a ton of great players come through the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball program, with names that include Charlie Blackmon, Mark Teixeira, Nomar Garciaparra, Joey Bart, and Max Wieters, but there is a current Yellow Jackets star that you could make the case is just as good as all of them, but in my particular case, I feel could be better: outfielder Drew Burress.
Burress busted on the scene last season with the Yellow Jackets, having perhaps the best freshman season in program history, leading the team in six different hitting categories, and solidifying him as one of the best young talents in the country last season.
Then, this season, Burress continued off of that success, hitting a team leading 23 doubles and 19 home runs, leading the team in that category as well.
In his two seasons with the Yellow Jackets, Burress has hit a combined 44 home runs and 38 doubles, while driving in 129 RBIs for the team, solidifying himself as a campus legend. The thing is that Burress still has another year of eligibility left, and if he has a season that is anything like the previous two, then Yellow Jackets fans have to acknowledge that he is undoubtedly one of the top five players to ever come through the program.
Burress was named to a total of five All-American teams this offseason, becoming one of just two players to accomplish the feat, with Florida State pitcher Jamie Arnold being the other.
