With college baseball season quickly approaching, the dive into teams that could make a huge leap in 2025 often will get brought up. Sure, there will most likely be teams that will make the D1 Baseball Tournament in this Summer, but what about teams that could make the jump from getting knocked out in the regional round from last season's tournament? One of those teams could be the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets already have perhaps the best player in all of college baseball this season in sophomore outfielder Drew Burress, who was named to the Preseason First-Team All-American team. The offense for the Yellow Jackets will most likely take a hit due to the loss of production, with the team losing four of their top five hitters from last season, but the team also returns both outfielder Parker Brosius and infielder Carson Kerce.
The Yellow Jackets will also see new faces on the mound this season, as the team will rely on a slew of new pitchers, as their rotation from last season only returns three players that started at least five games for the team last season, most notably Tate McKee, who started eight games last season. The other two are Carson Ballard and Mason Patel. Presumably, new additions Sam Swygert and Jaylen Paden to fill out the rotation.
The team does sport the No.2 ranked recruiting class in all of D1 college baseball, bringing in highly sought-after recruits Drew Rogers, the No.3 rated catcher in the class, Connor Shouse, pitcher/infielder, and Alex Hernandez, who was rated as the No.2 first baseman in the state of Georgia in the recruiting class.
New faces to teams normally mean that the team will take a step back, but the Yellow Jackets and head coach Danny Hall has seemed to build the team back up to be a contender in the D1 Baseball Tournament this season.
