With the season in full swing and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sitting at 15-0 on Jan. 9, you would think that the team had championship aspirations this season, but a double overtime heartbreaking loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies that night would somewhat derail the tremendous start for the Yellow Jackets.
The game was spectacular and an instant classic, however the bigger storyline would be Yellow Jackets freshman guard Dani Carnegie going down with a leg injury. The freshman was having a historic season, leading the Yellow Jackets in points and leading all freshman the nation in points per game.
The loss of Carnegie was devastating for the Yellow Jackets, but Carnegie would only miss the team’s next three games before coming back in a matchup against the Virginia Cavaliers, in which she would put up a season-high 29 points.
However, from there, Carnegie would begin to fall off in terms of production on the court, as it seemed that her shooting performances got worse after every game.
At one point, Carnegie would go through a three-game stretch where she shot 1-22 from beyond the arc, and has shot 5-20 during the Yellow Jackets current three-game losing streak. Four of those five made three-point attempts would be in the Yellow Jackets 83-68 loss to the NC State Wolfpack on Feb. 20.
The Yellow Jackets and Carnegie have one more game left on the schedule to try to end the season on a high note, against the Stanford Cardinal this Sunday.
