Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets center fielder Drew Burress has had a hot and cold season so far, which has matched the Yellow Jackets season trajectory, as they just ended a seven game losing streak on Sunday against the Virginia Cavaliers. This weekend, the Yellow Jackets did finally get a win in the series finale, but it was not all pretty for the Yellow Jackets or Burress.
Burress would begin the weekend hitless, as he went 0-3 in the series opener, while being walked once, and being brought in for a run in the game. However, he would not deliver in the game, and the Yellow Jackets lost 12-9. Of the 13 different batters that the Yellow Jackets sent to the plate in the game, Burress would be one of only four hitters that would not record a hit.
In game two of the series, Burress would finally record a hit, as he hit a single, but he would go 1-4 in the game, and it just proved to not be enough offense for the Yellow Jackets lineup, as they would go on to lose the game 6-5.
In the final game of the series, Burress would start the game 0-3, but he would get perhaps the biggest hit of the season so far for the Yellow Jackets, as he would hit a game-tying two run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game. Yellow Jackets first baseman Kent Schmidt would hit a walk off solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning.
