With the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets playing their spring game today, there will be a lot to look at today from position battles to highly touted new recruits, to some of the coaching changes around the team. However, one thing that at least I will have my eyes on is the play of Aaron Philo.
It is no news to Yellow Jackets fans that star quarterback Haynes King is in his senior year with the team and will be gone next season, and while it is easy to try to enjoy the ride while it lasts and not think about the futre, I ask, can't we do both?
The quarterback position is the most important one on the football field, and I really do think that the Yellow Jackets have their quarterback of the future with Philo, but I would still like to focus on his play in the playing time that he does have.
Philo started two games for the Yellow Jackets last season: home games against then-No.4 Miami and NC State. In those two games, Philo completed 24 of 43 passes for 332 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Philo also suited up for the second half of the team's game against Virginia Tech, where he completed 11 of his 26 passes with an interception. Philo also had 57 rushing yards and a touchdown in the game against NC State.
Philo has shown promise, and the steps that he makes this season will be crucial in his development, and that starts at the spring game today.
