The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team headed into the last day of the regular season in third place in the ACC standings, needing three things to happen: they needed to win their season finale against the No.20 ranked Duke Blue Devils, No.13 ranked NC State to lose to the Stanford Cardinal, and the No.2 ranked Florida State Seminoles to win against the No.4 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Yellow Jackets would be the latest game to start of the trio, so they would know their fate halfway through their contest. The Wolfpack played the earliest, and would go on to lose to the Cardinal, so first scenario down.

The next result to come in would be that of the Seminoles and the Tar Heels, which would again work out in the Yellow Jackets favor, as they would jump North Carolina and control their destiny in their game against the Blue Devils.

The two teams would battle back and forth through the first four innings, with the Yellow Jackets leading 3-2 heading into the fifth inning.

From that point on in the contest, the Yellow Jackets would not allow another run, and the batting lineup would start to pull away, scoring five runs in the next five innings to take an 8-2 lead in the top of the ninth. The Blue Devils were able to get the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, but a groundout to first base to record the final out sealed the Blue Devils fate, and the Yellow Jackets would claim their first regular season ACC title since 2005.
