After the team got their first ACC conference sweep of the season against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team is now sitting at 20-4, having not lost a three game series yet this season. As the season progresses, we must ask, just how much longer will it take for the Yellow Jackets to prove themselves to be a ranked team.
In the Division 1 baseball top 25, there are a total of nine teams in the top 25 that have more losses than the Yellow Jackets, which includes the likes of Dallas Baptist, who has losses to Oral Roberts and Middle Tennessee State this season, and Troy, who has losses to UL-Lafayette, Jacksonville State, and USC Upstate. The four losses that the Yellow Jackets have are to Marshall (two), Virginia Tech, and Pittsburgh. Two of those teams are formidable opponents and one of the losses to Marshall was 3-2.
So who have the Yellow Jackets beat? They currently have a 7-2 record within ACC play, and most of those wins have been dominant, scoring 10 or more runs in five games and allowing six or less runs in six of those ACC games. So even with bolstering their number with a soft our of conference schedule, the Yellow Jackets have been impressive against good competition.
So whether you talk about the wins they have or the losses that other teams in the top 25 have, the Yellow Jackets resume is something that the college baseball landscape should keep an eye out for.
