The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team won their first contest one the NCAA Tournament against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers yesterday 9-2, and by doing so, they would wait to see who would win the other first round game of their bracket: the Ole Miss Rebels or the Murray State Racers. The Racers would end up winning the game 9-6, securing their spot as the Yellow Jackets next opponent in the region.
The Yellow Jackets come into the game a bit off schedule from how they have normally played this season, as this will be only their fourth game in two weeks. Yellow Jackets fans, including myself, were wondering which version of the lineup would show up in their first matchup of the tournament: the one that hit seven home runs in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, or the one that went five innings without scoring a run in their semifinals matchup against the Clemson Tigers.
The Racers come into the contest winners of their last six games, including a win in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship against the Missouri State Bears and a win over the SEC runner-up Rebels in their first game of the NCAA Tournament. The Racers sit at 40-13 this season, with their win against the Rebels being their biggest win of the season so far.
The two teams will square off today, with the winner getting a bye, while the loser will play the winner of the Hilltoppers and the Rebels in their next game.
