The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets did their job in the quarterfinals against the California Golden Bears, winning 10-3 and making history in doing so by hitting an ACC Tournament single game-tying seven home runs. The question remained last night who the Yellow Jackets would face in the semifinals.
They would be facing the winner of the NC State-Clemson quarterfinal matchup, and while both teams put up a good fight in their matchup, it would be the Clemson Tigers coming out on top, 7-6, after scoring three runs in the eighth inning to complete the comeback.
The semifinals matchup between the Tigers and the Yellow Jackets will not be something new, as the two teams met for a weekend series in March. The Tigers would win two of three in the series, although the Yellow Jackets would outscore the Tigers through those three games 28-15, thanks in large part to an 18-2 drubbing of the Tigers in the second game of the series.
Both teams have been among the best in the ACC this season, as they have floated near the top of the ACC since conference play started this season. Coming into the season, it would be two outfielders for the teams battling it out for the best outfielder in the ACC: Yellow Jackets outfielder Drew Burress, and Tigers outfielder Cam Cannarella. Both have had remarkable seasons along with their teams, and lived up to the hype created.
The first pitch for the contest is scheduled for 1pm Eastern time tomorrow.
