When the season started, I would have told you that the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team was one that I was not too optimistic about, but the first half of the season had been a pleasant surprise, until last week.

The Yellow Jackets had their annual matchup with the in-state rival Georgia Bulldogs last Tuesday, a game in which the team entered No.13 in the D1Baseball.com Top 25. Then the Yellow Jackets offense went cold, as they wound up losing the game 5-2, a game in which I did not see the Yellow Jackets really winning, but I expected at least a little bit of fight out of them.

Then the weekend series against the Miami Hurricanes happened. Entering the weekend, I thought that this would be a great spot for the Yellow Jackets to get the season back on track, however the season hit a new low. For the first time all season, the Yellow Jackets got swept in a weekend series. The Hurricanes entered the series 21-17, and was not really looked at as a huge threat.

The sweep is even more disappointing when you see that the Yellow Jackets just did not execute in anything from the series, as they were outscored 21-6 over the three games of the series. The Yellow Jackets scored two runs in all three games of the weekend series.

The Yellow Jackets get no break this week, as they travel to take on the Auburn Tigers tonight at 8pm Eastern time.
