Newly named Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball head coach James Ramsey came into the offseason not really needing or looking for much in the transfer portal, but that did not stop the former ACC Player of the Year from looking around and swiping a few people that were in it, as Ramsey has had a busy month in June.
Ramsey kicked off the transfer portal season by grabbing one of the best power hitters available in it: Pittsburgh Panthers third baseman Ryan Zuckerman. Zuckerman blasted 13 home runs last season, the most among Panthers players. Zuckerman also drove in a team-leading 48 RBIs last season.
Ramsey was also busy on the pitching side, as he brought in Rutgers Scarlett Knights pitcher Justin Shadek, who started in all 15 games that he appeared in last season with the Scarlett Knights. Ramsey posted a 7.78 ERA last season and had a record of 4-5 but had a stretch where he went at least five innings deep in six of seven starts.
Another addition to the lineup will be Cade Brown, who spent last season with the Yellow Jackets in-state rival Georgia Bulldogs, seeing limited playing time, but making the most out of it. While Brown only hit .171 last season, he was regarded as one of the best players of the 2024 recruiting class.
Ramsey seems to have filled some of the Yellow Jackets needs this offseason, and is trying to continue on the legacy left behind by former head coach Danny Hall.
