The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team entered their contest against the Virginia Cavaliers baseball team today having lost six straight games, including the 12-9 series opening loss to the Cavaliers yesterday, so the Yellow Jackets needed a win in game two of the series to prevent the season from going totally off the rails. Alas, the Cavaliers would extend that streak to seven, as they beat the Yellow Jackets 6-5.
The lineup for the Yellow Jackets took a big step forward yesterday, as they would score more than two runs for the first time since their current seven game losing streak began, scoring nine runs. The lineup went right back to not producing today, as through eight innings, they put up only two runs.
The fate for the lineup would change in the bottom of the ninth inning though, as they would score a total of three runs in the inning, making the score 6-5 after freshman Connor Shouse would hit a double to right field to bring home catcher Vahn Lackey and outfielder Cooper McMullen to give the Yellow Jackets a ton of momentum, clearing the bases and putting himself in scoring position.
However, lead off man Kyle Lodise would strike out in four pitches in the next at-bat to end the game, with the Yellow Jackets dropping their seventh straight game of the season, with the team only having three series left.
The last game of the weekend series will take place tomorrow at 1pm Eastern time, with the Yellow Jackets looking to get back on the right track.
