The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets headed into their matchup with the California Golden Bears as favorites, with them being the top seed in the ACC Tournament and the Golden Bears being the lowest seed in the tournament, despite the seeding, the Golden Bears had won games in the first two rounds of the tournament, so they came into their game against the Yellow Jackets with a lot of built up momentum. However, the Yellow Jackets lineup would quickly wipe that momentum away, eliminating the Golden Bears 10-3 in the process.
The Yellow Jackets lineup wasted no time at all to get on the board, as lead off man Drew Burress would hit a solo home run to start the game. That was just the beginning of what would be one of the best starts that the Yellow Jackets would have in any game this season, as Kyle Lodise would also hit a two-run home run in the inning, and Caleb Daniel would absolutely crush a pitch to put the Yellow Jackets up 4-0 before the end of the first inning.
Throughout the course of the game, they Yellow Jackets would hit four more home runs, with Alex Hernandez, Drew Rogers, and Vahn Lackey all hitting bombs later in the contest, while Burress would hit his second home run of the game.
The seven total home runs are a new record for the Yellow Jackets, and ties for the most home runs in an ACC Tournament game in history.
Up next for the Yellow Jackets is a semifinals matchup against the Clemson Tigers Saturday at 1pm.
