With the announcement that the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team made the NCAA National Tournament, they waited to see who they would start tournament play with, and today they will start play against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
The Yellow Jackets are the second seed in the Oxford regional, hosted by the Ole Miss Rebels.
The Yellow Jackets come into the contest with a strong record against nonconference opponents, boasting a record of 20-5, and making that record even better by losing just two games against nonconference opponents that were not ranked, with both of those games coming in a series loss to the Marshall Thundering Herd.
The lineup for the Yellow Jackets will have their work cut out for them, as they will most likely face either Jack Bennett or Drew Whalen, who are the top two pitchers in ERA in the Conference USA this season.
As for the pitching for the Yellow Jackets, they will most likely see either Tate McKee or Brady Jones on the mound, going up against a lineup that features three players that are batting above .360: Ryan Wideman, Carlos Velasquez, and Kyle Hayes.
If the Yellow Jackets win, they will face the winner of the Ole Miss-Murray State game today, while if the lose, they will face the loser of that contest in an elimination game, risking being the first team to get bounced out of the tournament in the region.
First pitch for the contest is set for 4:00 Eastern time today.
