When the regions announced for the NCAA baseball Tournament, fans argued over which teams would be chosen as host teams for all 16 regions, with some big names being left off the list for hosts. One of those teams were the ACC regular season champions Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who became the first team under the current NCAA Tournament format to win the ACC regular season title and not be chosen as a host site.
We are now seeing why the Yellow Jackets should have been a host site over plenty of teams, and one of those teams is in their region: the Ole Miss Rebels.
I understand wanti g to put the Rebels as a hosting city, as they were able to go on a late season run in the SEC Tournament, advancing to the championship game after beating Florida, Arkansas, and LSU to earn some late season respect. However, the Rebels wasted no time showing fans why they should not have been picked as a host team, as they lost their first game of the NCAA Tournament against the Murray State Racers.
The Yellow Jackets, on the other hand, handled their first round matchup unscathed, as they picked up a 9-2 win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
The Rebels are now in danger of getting knocked out of the tournament in just their second game, proving that the Yellow Jackets were much better than what they have been seen as going into the seeding of the tournament.
If the NCAA wanted to put their best teams as host site, then the Yellow Jackets should have been given one, but they decided to do a popularity contest and put an SEC team as a host site when they clearly did not deserve the one that they got.
