The seeding for all 64 teams to make the college baseball National Tournament were announced yesterday, and while there were some surprises in teams being selected, there is one team that I want to focus on that I feel should have been a host site for one of the regions: the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets, when they have it going on offense, have perhaps the best offense in the entire country, as they led the entire nation in doubles for a majority of the season before their bats got cold near the end of the season.
They have a pitching rotation that in my opinion can hang with any other pitching rotation in the nation, led by Mason Patel, a graduate student that can play any role on the mound that is needed for the Yellow Jackets. Patel mostly comes in as a relief pitcher, as he has appeared in 21 games this season and has an ERA of 2.74, the second best on the team.
The Yellow Jackets became the first team that were crowned ACC regular season champions under the current seeding format that the NCAA Tournament uses to not be used as a host site.
I do understand the inconsistency of the team, especially the offense, given how they held up in the middle of the season, but when this team is rolling, they are among one of the top 16 teams in the entire nation, and they should have earned a host site for the tournament.
