The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets seemed to be an unstoppable team heading into their semifinals matchup against the Clemson Tigers, and after all, why not? They started Brady Jones, who was the starter when the Yellow Jackets beat the Tigers earlier this season in game two of their weekend series, and the Yellow Jackets lineup was coming off one of its best performances of the season in their quarterfinals matchup against the California Golden Bears. However, the Tigers were still able to find a way to claim a 9-4 victory over the top seeded Yellow Jackets.
Brady Jones would start the day off well, getting through the first two innings without allowing a hit, but then the weeks came off for Jones, as he would allow five runs in the third inning, four of which came from a grand slam hit by Jacob Jarrell to give the Tigers their first lead of the game, taking a 4-3 lead. Jones would be replaced to start the fourth inning.
The lineup for the Yellow Jackets did get off to a great start, building a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but the bats would eventually grow cold for the Yellow Jackets, as the scored just one more run through the rest of the contest. The Yellow Jackets would not score a single run through the last five innings of the game.
The loss means that the Yellow Jackets will be put on the outside looking in when it comes to hosting a region, but they should be a strong contender for a two seed in a region.
