Georgia Tech basketball has a guard problem, and has not acknowledged it

Heading into the 2025 offseason, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball team seemed to be in great hands at the guard position in their starting lineup. Sure, they would be losing Lance Terry due to graduation, however the team still had sophomore standout Naithan George. However, George transferred out to the Syracuse Orange, and it seemed as if the team was going to reach into the transfer portal to find a replacement, but they have not found a formidable one yet.

The announcement of George's transfer was shocking to me to say the least, but now the Yellow Jackets are left with a huge hole in the starting lineup at the starting point guard spot. I get that incoming guard Kam Craft will be someone that the Yellow Jackets use, but his skill set is built more for a shooting guard than a true point guard. The other two incoming transfers, Peyton Marshall and Lamar Washington, which while Washington is a guard, Indo not think his play style translates to what the Yellow Jackets need at this time.

This means that the hole left has been, in large, completely disregarded. Now the Yellow Jackets will have to see what's left at the bottom of the barrell to get a playmaker at the point guard spot late in the transfer portal.

The best answer at the moment is Washington, Kowacie Reeves Jr or Javian McCollum, both of which suffered from injuries last season, and are not exactly true point guards.

The hope is that one of the three can step into the role that George played last season, however I do not think that any of the three will be able to replicate the success that George had in head coach Damon Stoudamire's system the past two seasons.
