Georgia Tech basketball should have gotten a better opponent for ACC-SEC Challenge

The matchups for the 2025 ACC-SEC Challenge have been announced, and while some fans of teams are happy with their opponents, other fans of teams are left disappointed with who their team will be taking the court against this Fall. So which side should Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fans be on, and why?

It was announced yesterday that the Yellow Jackets will be paired up against the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the second time in three seasons for the ACC-SEC Challenge, and as a Yellow Jackets fan, this matchup could not have been paired any better for the team.

Neither team is expected to have huge seasons next year, so it plays as a perfect nonconference game for both teams, where they can attest to where they are at early on in the season.

The Yellow Jackets will have a lot of problems after losing three of their four most productive players from last season in Lance Terry, Naithan George, and Duncan Powell, while the only true star returning will be forward Baye Ndongo.

The Yellow Jackets will also be facing another SEC team during their nonconference schedule: the in-state rival Georgia Bulldogs, who the Yellow Jackets will face on Nov.14.

So having two teams on the schedule will already be tough enough, it was a relief to me that the Yellow Jackets will be paired up against a team that finished around the middle of the pack in the SEC last season.

The date for the game will be either Dec. 2 or 3 depending on how the rest of both teams' nonconference schedule works out.
