The 11-0 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets came into their game against the Rice Owls favored by 26.5 points, and they covered the point spread and then some, as they would get their victory number twelve on the season, extending the best start in the program's history, defeating the Owls 88-57.
The Yellow Jackets got off to a little bit of a slow start on offense, as the team had five turnovers at one point compared to six points. Then in the second quarter, sophomore guard Rusne Augustinaite would take over the game for the Yellow Jackets, making four three-point shots in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Augustinaite would finish with 23 points in the game, with 21 of those coming from beyond the arc.
The Yellow Jackets would head into halftime up 37-18.
The defense for the Yellow Jackets would be dominant over the first three quarters, as they would not allow more than 14 points in a quarter until giving up 25 in the fourth quarter alone.
Aside from Augustinaite’s performance, three more Yellow Jackets would score in double digits in the contest. Kara Dunn would finish with 17 points, Tonie Morgan with 10, and Zoesha Smith would finish with her first double-double of the season, as she scored 11 points to go along with 11 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets will be in action again on Saturday, as they will host the No. 23 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers in a ranked matchup. The game is set to tip off at 5:30 pm Eastern time.
