The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team was not supposed to do much this season, as they were a young and upcoming team that would have to find their own way of getting things done to get victories on the board. And it looked like they would be one of the great surprises of the season, but then reality hit in the form of a seven game losing streak, and the Yellow Jackets, who were once as high as No.13 in the D1Baseball.com Top 25 suddenly found themselves out of the rankings all together.
Granted, the horrid stretch has been against some pretty stiff competition, including two losses to the Auburn Tigers and a game against the Georgia Bulldogs. However, it was the weekend series against the Miami Hurricanes last weekend that sent the season off the rails. The Hurricanes were not seen as a top contender in the ACC at that point in the season, but managed to sweep the Yellow Jackets, outscoring them 21-6 over the course of three games.
The Yellow Jackets were able to win the last game of the series against the Cavaliers, but it was too late and the damage had already been done, as they would drop out of the Top 25 completely, as the fell from No.24 to unranked: right back to where they started the season.
The Yellow Jackets still have three weekend series left in the regular season, and they will need strong showings in those to show that they belong among the best in college baseball.
