The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets entered the final game of their weekend series against the Virginia Cavaliers desperately needing a victory, as they were riding a seven game losing streak. However, the Yellow Jackets offense would make enough plays in the game to end that losing streak to eight games, as they won the contest 7-6.
The pitching for the Yellow Jackets was overall solid, despite giving up - runs. The runs would score sporadically, with a two run home run in the first inning, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch in the fifth inning, and a two run home run in the seventh inning.
Jaylen Paden would get the start on the mound, and put together a good outing for his second start of the season, as he pitched five full innings, had four strikeouts, allowed four earned runs, and walked just one batter.
The Yellow Jackets offense had trouble getting on base throughout the game, as they would come away with just one hit in the first five innings of work. The fifth inning would provide somewhat of an offensive explosion for the Yellow Jackets, as they would get three hits in the inning and score two runs.
The Yellow Jackets would have an opportunity to bring home some runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, having baserunners on first and second with one out, but back-to-back outs would retire the inning.
Then, the Yellow Jackets would score two runs on a home run by Drew Burress to tie the game up and send it into extra innings.
With two outs in the bottom of the tenth, Yellow Jackets first baseman Kent Schmidt would hit a solo home run to walk it off for the Yellow Jackets, winning the contest 7-6.
