The 2025 college football season is approaching fast, but that does not mean the the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and head coach Brent Key are already looking forward to next season, and that starts with recruiting in the class of 2026. The Yellow Jackets already had commitments from two players from the recruiting class, and they got another one this week, as offensive lineman Bear Fretwell joined the class.
Fretwell comes from Southeast Bulloch High School in Brooklet, Ga. He enters his senior season as being a three year starter for the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets. South Bulloch won just six games in his first two seasons with the team, but they had a breakout year this season, advancing all the way to the Class AAA Tournament quarterfinals, where they lost to the Stephenson Jaguars 36-3.
Fretwell stands at 6-foot-seven and weighs in at 290 pounds, and has been sought after for his size and athletic ability as an offensive tackle. Fretwell also held offers from the Northwestern Wildcats, Cincinnati Bearcats, and Georgia State Panthers, before choosing to play at Georgia Tech.
This will be the third offensive lineman that Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key will bring in as part of the 2026 recruiting class, joining a pair of brothers in Courtlin Heard and Courtney Heard, both of which attend East Coweta.
Adding in these recruits will be crucial for both Key and the sustainability of the program going forward, as Key has shown that his primary focus is in the trenches.
