With the college football landscape everchanging, teams are faced with crucial decisions on a year-to-year basis. One of the new things that some teams, such as Nebraska, NC State, North Carolina, Texas, and USC are doing this Spring is cancelling their Spring game in hopes that other colleges will not use it as film on a second or even third string guy so that they can talk them into coming to their football program.
However, I think that this should not even be as big of a deal as it is right now, and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team should still continue with their Spring game (The White and Gold Game) moving forward.
Spring games are when we can see players get their first reps with new teams, whether it be from the transfer portal or a freshman from the recruiting class. Getting the reps in are important for the player, but they are also a great way for Yellow Jackets fans to know who is on the roster moving forward, and who can they get excited about for the upcoming season.
Will there be players leave, and coaches who will accelerate that process? Absolutely. However, i think that the right guys that you want will stay, and the guys that are not bought in to the program would leave. Wouldn't that be what you want as a coach? An effective way to weed out players that are not bought in to what your program is doing, while simultaneously showing you the players that are?
