In a series of streaks that Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fans could not have expected, the team will have it's guaranteed third straight Super Bowl that a player from the school will hoist the Lombardi Trophy. The two Yellow Jacket alumnus that will go head-to-head in the Super Bowl will be Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, while on the other sideline, former Yellow Jacket wide receiver E.J. Jenkins will suit up for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Butker has become a household name for the Chiefs, as he has been the Chiefs go-to kicker every season since joining the team in 2017. Butker has been a part of all five of the Chiefs Super Bowl appearances, and last year, broke the record for most made field goals in the Super Bowl for a career.
Butker served as the kicker for the Paul Johnson-led Yellow Jackets from 2016-19, where he became he team's all-time leading scorer and was named a captain of the team for his senior season. Butker has only missed one kick in his Super Bowl career, a 42-yarder in the Chiefs 38-35 win over the Eagles two seasons ago.
E.J. Jenkins path to the Super Bowl has not been as easy, as the wide receiver was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, resulting in him having to find a spot on a practice squad and earn a roster spot. Jenkins started with the New York Jets, then moved to the Philadelphia Eagles, then got picked up by the Las Vegas Raiders, before finally signing with the Eagles for a second time this season. Jenkins made his lone catch of the season in the Eagles Week 18 win against the New York Giants, which resulted in a seven-yard touchdown. Jenkins has yet to have a reception in the NFL Playoffs.
