Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Damon Stoudamire hit the transfer portal hard this offseason, but there is one player on the Yellow Jackets that I feel has a genuine gripe about who Stoudamire added, it is Yellow Jackets guard Jaeden Mustaf.
Mustaf served as a guard coming off the bench when Naithan George, Lance Terry, or Javian McCollum needed rest last season, and he did a pretty good job at it, averaging 8.3 points per game. His assist totals were not there, but Mustaf showed at least a little promise on the offensive side of the ball, and it looked as if he would be taking Naithan George’s starting spot in the lineup when he announced his transfer.
However, Stoudamire went out and got two seasoned veterans in Lamar Washington and Kam Craft. With Kraft, it was all about his spot up three-point shot, which to Kraft’s credit, Mustaf did not have. And then came Washington, who proved himself as a facilitator of an offense with the Pacific Tigers last season, averaging 13.5 points and 5.8 assists per game last season.
This puts Mustaf in a position similar to last season, where he will most likely be a bench player that gets a lot of minutes, but not quality starts. Mustaf started ten games for the Yellow Jackets last season, and I hope that Stoudamire will give Mustaf a shot to showcase his skills as a starter once again. With Washington being a senior, I could see Stoudamire starting Mustaf in up to 15 games, just to see if he has a starter in Mustaf for next season.
