With the 2025 college football Spring transfer portal now being open for three weeks, it has been a time for coaches to scout available players from other teams to fill out their rosters, whether it be picking up a last minute prospect, or a guy that the team could bring in as a game changer, these players can be someone that plays a huge role on teams maybe this season, or for the future. One thing is for certain though, and that is that Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key does not take the Spring transfer portal lightly.
Key started it off by grabbing offensive tackle Malachi Carney, who had previously played on the South Alabama Jaguars and will be an incoming junior.
Then they went secondary heavy, as they were able to land three secondary players: safety Savion Riley, safety Jyron Gilmore, and cornerback Jon Mitchell. Gilmore peviously played at Tennessee Tech and Georgia State, where he would shine with over 200 tackles in his collegiate career so far. Riley comes to the Yellow Jackets after previous stints with the Colorado Buffaloes and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Riley was able to be a crucial player while with the Commodores, but he would not see much action with the Buffaloes. Jon Mitchell was a four star recruit, and after not seeing playing time in his lone season at Penn state, Mitchel decided to transfer out.
The most recent incoming transfer is someone that Yellow Jackets fans are familiar with: Akelo Stone, who played two seasons with the Yellow Jackets before transferring to Ole Miss, and now, after two seasons, Stone returns to the Yellow Jackets.
